Too Much

WOW…I mean you wait like a week and pretty much everything happens all at once.  It’s so hard for me to stay focused just when I’m talking, when I’m writing there’s no doubt in my mind it’s even worse.  I’m going to try and focus my thoughts but I have to say a few things before I get to a point…

1)      The Boston Red Sox won the World Series…but you already know that…I just felt like saying it again because it sounds so good.  It was nice to see a sport being played the right way…good pitching and solid hitting.  When everyone contributes it allows you to enjoy the games to their fullest potential.  I just hope they don’t trade away everyone and let their youth and experience mesh into a perfect net which could form the next dynasty.

2)      Brett Favre is literally reaching the Allen Iverson/Cal Ripken/Paolo Maldini status of how the hell does he do that?!!  An ageless ironman who continues to perform at the highest level regardless of the situation.  Just this past Monday night he threw as good an Overtime touchdown pass as you can throw and by the way it just happened to be the first and only throw in overtime for either team.  Speaking generally, how can you NOT route for the guy at this point?  He is surrounded by young seemingly inexperienced talent, which somehow has blended well enough to give Favre one more shot at the playoffs.

3)      The NBA tipped off last night with yet another 40+ point performance by the trade-teetering Kobe…albeit in a loss.  Even with all the garbage you heard about in the off-season I am surprisingly interested in this season.  I am really looking forward to watching how things unfold with the Celtics revamping and the crop of teams filled with young talent that will be starting in a majority of their teams games.  If people would just stop complaining about off-the-court stuff and just focus on the basketball I think they’d be pleasantly surprised.  This is no longer a time when players are role-models, instead maybe we should just start looking at them as athletes and players.

4)      Last thing and then I will talk about what I originally wanted to…Pats-Colts is this weekend…yes they are both undefeated and yes it will be a great football game.  That’s it plain and simple, stop talking about it, let the players and the game speak for itself…you want me to tell you who is going to win…I will…AFTER ITS OVER…because no one knows which is why I’ll be settled in on the couch watching the game instead of reading about it.  I suggest you do the same.

This leads me to what I wanted to discuss all along…the Patriots running up the score on people.  I CANNOT believe how many people are complaining about this.  Why is there even a discussion, are you kidding me!!!??  These people are pro-athletes who have been playing this sport for basically all of their lives…and you’re asking them why they are scoring?!  They are rubbing it in!!??  WHAT?!  What are you talking about?  This is a professional sport, with employees who get paid to do what they are doing, more specifically, WIN.  If you went into work and did your work TOO WELL or TOO PERFECT…you think your boss would say “you don’t have to rub it in, just do your job half-assed, you don’t have to givr 100% all the time,” not really, more likely you’d get praise, a raise or a promotion if you do it on a consistent basis.  The Patriots don’t need to be reprimanded or dealt with, they need a raise…or if someone has the balls…they need to be beaten.  You want them to shut up, you want them to stop scoring touchdowns on you…okay, mister I have been playing football all my life and I’m in NFL, why don’t you stop them!?  You can’t, doesn’t seem anyone can, at least for now.  Are they unbeatable?  Absolutely not, but they are playing exceptional well together.  I’m just enjoying it…I’m paraphrasing what I remember, but during the FIBA Championships this year when the US beat up on Venezuela 112-69 I recall a Venezuelan reporter after the game thanking the coaches for not going easy, or relaxing against them, explaining it was a sign of respect.  Everyone is claiming the Patriots are disrespecting the League, ironically, it is the opposite.  They respect every teams so much they refuse to give anything less than 125%, how could you see that as a bad thing?!
