Zach (Tiger-beater) Johnson
Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods…Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods…I heard somewhere there is this golfer named Woods who lost the Masters this weekend. You know what you didn’t hear about… WHO WON?!?! Nobody seemed to discuss ZACH JOHNSON, the guy who won…the man who actually received the green jacket. Listen, I love Tiger, I do, and I think he is arguably the greatest golfer who ever lived but I don’t quite understand why Woods losing has to overshadow such an amazing accomplishment for someone. Out of respect for the actual WINNER of the tournament I’m going to spend a few moments letting you know who he actually is.
He was born in 1976 in Iowa City, IA which makes him, very good your education has not been wasted, 31. He went to college at Drake University in Des Moines, IA Obviously, the man is a Hawkeye fan, have some sympathy for him. Graduating in 1998 he decided to turn pro. He worked his way on up to the Nationwide tour and onto the PGA tour where he qualified for the US Ryder Cup team in 2006. He wasn’t a nobody on the tour before the tournament, at least I wouldn’t say, he was ranked 56th in the world. The Masters victory didn’t go unnoticed, obviously, boosting him to 15th the rankings. He was actually the first golfer (since the use of Official World Golf Ranking) to win the Masters from outside the top 50. It was only his second win on the PGA tour, his first being the 2004 Bell South Classic. His strengths are his putting and his accuracy. I wouldn’t say he is the next Tiger, but he definitely isn’t you’re Saved by the Bell Zach.
By the way his win catapulted him to 8th on the money list this year with a running total of around 1.65 million dollars, not too bad…probably doesn’t have to worry about those student loans anymore.
